Chiropractic Surprised Me

Unexpected results were an eye opener!

I first discovered chiropractic in my early 20’s after a bout of debilitating back pain left me flat on my back for a few days.  My mother had been to a chiropractor after a bad car accident and sent me off to see her doctor.  Not only did my back pain go away, but so did my digestion and clicking jaw problems.  I knew there was something to this and it inspired me to look into it as a career.

Ottawa Chiropractor,<br/>Dr. Michael FriedmanI was already a few years into my Kinesiology degree at York University and from this point on I knew that chiropractic was the career for me.  My studies there had a heavy focus on anatomy and biomechanics, which helped me prepare for my four years of chiropractic education at Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas.   It was there that I learned just how powerful and intricate the human nervous system is and why it is vital to have a healthy nervous system for a healthy life.  Consequently, the bulk of my post graduate studies have been in the areas of neurology and wellness.

I now know that the greater the function of the nervous system, the greater the quality of life.  My purpose as a chiropractor is to facilitate a community of health conscious individuals to bolster their nervous systems and realize their full healing and human potential.  By taking the time to listen to my patients needs and providing a very thorough examination, I aim to get to the cause of their problems.  I provide passionate and dedicated chiropractic care, as well as specific wellness advice to help my patients strengthen their nervous system and maximize their own healing process.

My greatest satisfaction in practice comes from witnessing this powerful ability to heal in patients who have come to chiropractic often as a last resort.  These are people who are told they will have to “just live with” their condition or take strong medications for the rest of their lives, yet get excellent results from chiropractic.  These cases clearly demonstrate that if the body is given the right resources and tools and there is no (nerve) interference, it can usually heal itself.

The only thing I am more passionate about than chiropractic is spending time with my family.  This is the reason for moving back to my home province of Ontario after seven blissful years in Vancouver.  My family and I walk the talk when it comes to wellness.  We are active in hiking, curling, cross country skiing and yoga-In fact it was at a yoga studio that I first met my wife.  In addition to our active lifestyles, we also eat a balanced and healthy diet and use specific techniques to minimize our daily stressors.  Of course, my wife, daughter and I get regular chiropractic adjustments as well as I strongly believe that chiropractic plays an important role in maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle.

Enough about me!  How can we help you today?  I look forward to meeting you in person and learning how we can be of service to you. Give our office a call, or email me using the link below to take your first step towards better health.

Why does chiropractic work?
Chiropractic works because your nervous system, consisting of your brain, spinal cord and all the nerves of your body, controls and regulates every cell, tissue, organ and system of your body. A chiropractor locates and reduces areas of nervous system compromise (usually along the spine) so your capacity to heal is restored. Chiropractic works by helping your body work as it was designed.
What's a side effect?
It may sound like a bonus; something extra, but chiropractors know it should more accurately called an "unintended effect," and "unwanted effect" or in some cases an "adverse effect." A pill can't come close to matching your body's ability to create and deliver the essential compounds it needs. That's when it's important to make sure your nervous system is working correctly—the purpose of chiropractic care!
